On Friday night, November 8th, DASH supporters turned out in droves all dressed up and sparkly for an unforgettable 6th edition of our annual Taste of Design benefit gala. The PTSA truly outdid themselves this year with an abudance of exquisite food, phenomenal silent auction items, and irresistible performing artist talent. Best of all, ticket sales filled the house at the beautifully decorated and brightly lit Moore Building. Thank you to all our donors who contributed their time, talent, financial support, and auction items. Thank you to the many magnificent local restaurants who made the night extra delicious. And hats off to the PTSA team for weeks of work putting together such a gorgeous affair!
The DASH PTSA is a powerhouse of support for our school. This incredible organization makes possible many student scholarships and events, beautifully caters special ceremonies throughout each year, and mans our Media Center with diehard volunteers. They also put together one of the best parties in town, the annual Taste of Design, with proceeds directly benefitting DASH.
At Taste of Design, our main fundraising gala which takes place at the breathtaking historic Moore building across the street from the school campus, guests enjoy signature dishes from top local restaurants. Also on the menu are live music and entertainment. And everyone in attendance gets to bid on fabulous silent auction items such as Design District company gift cards and luxury vacation stays. Tickets are available now!
PTSA stands for Parent Teacher Student Association – but all family members, faculty and staff, and community advocates are welcome and encouraged to sign up. Membership is only $10 per person per year, and right now there is a major membership drive going on – with only 3 days left!
To sign up, go to dashptsa.com to download the membership form or visit the Media Center to pick up a copy. Turn in your form and send payment via your student’s English teacher or send it to the main office by October 10th. Turn in 3 memberships and get a free DASH t-shirt! It’s that easy! The grade with the most members will be rewarded with an ice cream party on October 11th at 11:30 AM.
On Friday, March 15th, DASH juniors and seniors had the 15th annual internship fair and career portfolio day. It begun with a senior breakfast sponsored by the PTSA and a panel of speakers in the multi-purpose room. The design forum speakers included Lucas Leyva or Borscht Corp., Judy Holm of Aspirations PR, Irma Martinez of Trendy Studio, Nick Cindric of NC Contemporary, and Lauren Arkin of LA Boudoir.
This was followed by a keynote address from Lucas Leyva of Borscht Corp., a Miami resident, to the senior class. He said many important things to the class and was very inspirational. To get started he gave a key piece of advice: “Do projects for no money at first. Borrow gear, put your stuff online. Get a twitter.”
The final part of the day was for the junior class. They had an amazing opportunity to put themselves out there with interviews with people currently working in the industry they were pursuing. We had architecture firms, artists’ studios, and museums come to be a part of this event. Thank you to everyone who participated in making the day a success.
