DASH sophomore Nina Ahmadi claimed first place at this year’s regional Piano Slam 9 Competition that took place at the Arsht Performing Arts Center on Thursday, February 16th.
After about five weeks of intensive practice with her coach, Darius Daughtry (pictured above), she, along with 16 other finalists, delivered her spoken word piece titled “Symphony of the Street” with powerful dynamism and conviction.
After careful consideration of all the poets’ emotional final performances, the judges awarded Nina the first place prize.
Many fellow DASH students were there to support her at the event. She is the second DASH student to win Piano Slam, preceded by junior James Balo.
Congratulations Nina on bringing home to DASH this prestigious honor!
Not only are DASH students great artists, their many gifts extend across a broad range of talents – music, athletics, leadership, and yes, superb writing. As is the case every year, our DASH writers submitted a sterling portfolio of written works. Junior student, James Balo received a Silver Key and the notable American Voices nomination which advances his work to national competition. Sophomore students Micah Bast (Red Ribbon), Alana Martinez (White Ribbon), Alexandra Delgado (Red Ribbon), and Sam Yaziji (Silver Key) were all honored, while Freshman student Yasmin Waheed received two Silver Keys and one Honorable Mention.
